Playful kitchen design 

A living kitchen project in Woodford Green, North London, thought for a family with a love of design and a warm, playful aesthetic. It creates a compelling mix of colours and textures, harmonised by the relaxing tones of Arpa® surfaces. 

Brought to life by Plykea with SS4 Architects and Studio Fabbri, the kitchen shows glossy pink tiles for the backsplash and for one side of the island’s front, combined with the aesthetic richness of the worktops featuring a terrazzo pattern. Facing the garden from glass windows, the kitchen is immersed in a luminous open space with rafted ceiling and parquet in the living aside. 

Within this playful environment, the island’s sides and drawers in Arpa Bloom Rosa Bourbon together with a wall cabinetry in FENIX® Verde Kitami, define a deep sense of comfort and balance.  

Was it challenging to balance glossy tiles, terrazzo worktop and matt surfaces within such an eclectic space?

The challenge was part of the clients’ brief. By carefully layering colours, finishes and textures, the design strikes a balance—playful but refined, eclectic yet cohesive.

The warmth of Rosa Bourbon balances beautifully with the depth of Verde Kitami. Together, their matt look creates a cohesive palette that feels both inviting and elegant.

How are the tactile sensations involved in the kitchen design?

Touch is central—the velvety matt surfaces, natural oak handles, terrazzo worktop and glossy tiles combine to create a kitchen that feels as good as it looks.

What did you most appreciate of Arpa materials?

Their colour depth, durability and tactile quality. They deliver a sophisticated aspect that feels playful, yet resilient enough to handle everything family life brings.
